A few weeks ago, Newberry Township Fire Department officials said farewell to a longtime friend -- its engine.  Originally purchased in the 1970s, this engine was refurbished in the 1990s.  Recently, however, due to several new combination pieces being acquired, officials believed there was no longer a need for a stand-alone engine.  So, Engine 31 was sold to another company for $10,000.  At this point in time, there are no plans to replace it with another piece.

June 17th, 2010 - YCC 911 dispatched box alarm 31-08 for a reported structure fire with smoke in the building. Units due on the box were Tanker 31, Rescue 31, Engine 28, Tanker 68, Truck 24, Amb 31-2. Chief 31-1 enroute, County advising fire possible out, reported in basement, smoke condition inside residence, all occupants have been evacuated.  Tanker 31 enroute with Chief 31-1 on board. Tanker 31 on scene reporting nothing showing side A. Crew from Tanker 31 conducted interior attack/search and found, light smoke condition inside the residence, fire is out. Investigating crews found washer fire inside the basement. Chief 31-1 established command and quickly held the box to Tanker 31 and Amb 31-2. Crews conducted ventilation and cleared the incident by 0615 hours.

June 14th, 2010 - YCC 911 dispatched box alarm 31-07 for a reported vehicle fire bringing Rescue 31 and Amb 31-1.  York reporting that a possible fire smoldering inside the vehicle, windows tinted light smoke condition.

EMS 31 arrived on scene with Ambulance 31-1 to report small vehicle, smoldering fire, EMS 31 establishing Command 31. Rescue 31 enroute with Deputy Chief Reece in the seat. Rescue 31 crew members arrived and extinguished the fire within three minutes of arrival.

Great job to the crew members on the scene. Command placed the incident under control in 30 minutes.

June 13th, 2010 - North Shore Friends hosted there annual Car Show held at FCI on Old York Road. Ambulance 31-2 provided a cool down area for the vendors and the spectators during the event. As always, the event was enjoyed by many spectators. This event is hosted annually by North Shore Friends. Patti Gordon comments, "Our organization is developed to help the local kids in our community!".

Members of NTFD paid thier respects to the fallen war veterans and the veterans who are living in our communities. NTFD proudly displayed thier crew members and apparatus as the parade through Newberrytown occured. A brief ceremony commenced at the Newberrytown Church of God where further respects were paid to our veterans.

Though I don't know your name
And I have never seen your face
I shed tears for you.

Though my memories don't contain a time
We shared together
I miss you.

Though we are not related
You are in my thoughts.

When I'm eating, or taking a shower, or doing housework,
I think of you, knowing how much you wish you could be at home,
Your stomach full, doing mundane chores such as cleaning your house,
Clean from a fresh shower.

Though you are at terrible risk, and perhaps may not survive,
You are NEVER ALONE, and will always be alive
If only in our spirits, hopes and memories, our dreams for your future.

There are MILLIONS of people praying for you tonight
And throughout the day.

Praying for your safely and return as a whole person
In mind, body and spirit.

We are crying because we know. We know you are scared, and lonely.
And that you'd give anything to see your family, to hug you mother, father.
Your child, sister, brother, aunt, uncle.

To be showered with love and comfort,
Instead of sand and shrapnel.

We long for you too, with an ache so desperate as to make us insane.
To touch your face, see your smile; share your laughter and your tears.

We love you so much soldiers, you cannot know. You cannot fathom the swelling of pride in our chest as we think of you.

And even as democracy permits free speech, as it should, which some may use to make judgments or cast aspersions,
Remember always, we know you'd rather be on the couch debating it with us than spending your days trying just to stay alive.

Let no "freedom of speech' EVER make you doubt the American people's faith in and love for you.

05-21-10 YCC 911 dispatched box alarm assignment 31-04 for structure fire, smoke reported inside residence. EMS 31 enroute as DO31 was given additional information, smoke detector activated, smoke has dissipated at this time. Tanker 31 enroute OFC. Command established by DO31, nothing evident side A. Tanker 31 crew directed to investigate. Interior crews found faulty dryer, hold the box to Tanker 31. Incident under control in 20 minutes. Great job to the Tanker crew for prompt and excellent work! Units cleared the incident at 12:18 hours.

05-20-10  Crew members from NTFD conducted the weekly training session at LQK conducting Vehicle Extrication practices. Crew conducted practices on two different vehicles and senior members worked hand in hand with junior firefighters showing instruction and purpose to the practices and extrication with patient care. All crew members that participated did an excellent job and each all of the junior members enhanced there knowledge and importance of proper extrication. Great job NTFD!

05-18-2010 YCC 911 dispatched box 31-01 for a reported vehicle accident overturned with unknown injuries.

Amb 31-2 and EMS 31 on scene reporting all occupants out of the vehicle, fluid control needed. Rescue 31 on scene controlling fluids. Fire Police 31 on scene for approx 30 until vehicle was removed. All patients were in care of EMS. All units cleared the scene within 30 minutes of the incident.
